New species of bird spotted in Chitwan

With this, the number of bird species has reached 891 in Nepal. Chitwan alone has 650 species of bird.

Chitwan: A new species of bird has been spotted in Chitwan.

According to Nepal Bird Experts Association Bagmati Chapter Chairperson Basu Bidari, the new species of bird was detected at a paddy field in Khairahani Municipality-11, Pidhani area.

Six days ago, a member of the Bird Education Society Sauraha Raju Tamang had taken a snapshot of the bird. After the detection of the bird, a team comprising bird specialist Dr Hem Sagar Baral on Tuesday arrived in Chitwan and undertook the further study.

According to Bidari, the bird was also detected on Tuesday. The experts’ team said that the bird was a Chinese Pond Heron. The bird is found in different countries, including China, India, and Hong Kong. Bidari said the newly-found bird species are of shy nature.
