Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that he is putting efforts to ensure parliamentary ratification of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact.

Unveiling a book written by Nepali Congress leader and former Minister Arjun Narsingh KC on Thursday, the prime minister said that he was committed to the ratification as the party has already decided to endorse the Compact.

Prime Minister Deuba said that the MCC project could even be rejected by Parliament.
“We have unanimously decided to pass the MCC. I am effortful to ensure it. The Compact could be even rejected by the Parliament. However, it is true that it is in the interest of the nation,” said Deuba.

Although the government was ready to table the MCC proposal in the HoR meeting on Wednesday, it was not tabled after the ruling coalition failed to forge consensus in this regard.

A meeting of the ruling coalition is taking place this evening to hold a discussion on the issues including the MCC.
