Kathmandu: The government is preparing to add 13 local levels ahead of local-level elections slated for May 13.
The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has prepared a proposal in this regard and the proposal will be presented at the meeting of Cabinet slated for today, said Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Rajendra Shrestha.
Currently, there are 753 local levels.
Minister Shrestha on Thursday held discussions with coalition leaders Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal on the issue.
The Local Level Restructuring Commission headed by Balananda Poudel had recommended 719 local levels. But the Council of Ministers in February 2017 increased the numbers to 744.
The then government had added nine local levels in the current Madhes Province in 2017 to appease Madhes-centric parties to participate in the elections.
