Kathmandu: Nepal lost to Ireland by 16 runs in the final match of the Oman Quadrangular T20 Series. In the match held at Al Amerat, Oman earlier today Nepali batsmen failed to capitalize on the good work of the bowlers and gave away an opportunity to register a historic win.
Dipendra Singh Airee top scored with 28 runs followed by Aasif Sheikh who scored 23 runs. Kushal Bhurtel (15) and Kamal Airee (13) were the other two batsmen who scored in double figures.
Earlier, choosing to bowl first, Nepal had restricted Ireland to 127 runs. Nepal restricted Ireland to a paltry total after captain Sandeep Lamichhane chose to field first upon winning the toss.
Dipendra Singh Airee led the Nepali bowlers in restricting Ireland to 127 runs. He took 4 wickets giving away only 21 runs in his full quota of 4 overs. Likewise, Abinash Bohara took two wickets while captain Lamichhane, Jitendra Mukhiya, and Kamal Airee took one wicket each.
Ireland posted the total at the loss of 9 wickets. George Dockrell was the top scorer with 28 runs.
Dipendra Singh was adjudged the player of the match for fairing well with both bat and ball. This was the third match Nepal played in the series. It won one against host Oman and lost one each against the UAE and Ireland.
