Govt, Biplav-led NCP discuss implement of three-point deal

Kathmandu: The government and the Netra Bikram Chand alias Biplav-led Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have discussed the implementation of the three-point agreement that brought the party to peaceful politics.

Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dilendra Prasad Badu, Attorney General Khamma Bahadur Khati, Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, Law Secretary Uday Raj Sapkota and NCP Spokesperson Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma discussed the implementation of the deal on Saturday.

Home Ministry Spokesperson Phanindra Mani Pokharel said that the talks focused on the progress made so far in the implementation of the three-point agreement.

“There has been a cordial discussion on the progress made so far in the implementation of the three-point agreement between the government and the party and how to move forward,” said Pokharel, adding that discussions focused on the withdrawal of cases.

During the talks, NCP Spokesperson Bishwakarma briefed the government on the cases filed against the party cadres during various agitations and the details of the jailed cadres.

Emerging from the meeting, Bishwakarma said that a timeline for the implementation of the three-point agreement was chalked out in the meeting.

“Today’s talks have set a timeline for the implementation of the three-point agreement. The government has been positive in implementing our demands. Some topics have been finalized; some are in the process. Hopefully, a conclusion will be reached soon,” he said.

The KP Sharma Oli-led government and the party on March 5, 2021, had signed a three-point peace deal that brought the underground outfit to peaceful politics. As per the agreement, the government had agreed to lift the ban imposed on the group, and release cadres and leaders and withdraw cases filed against them. However, the agreement has not been implemented fully yet.
