Kathmandu: The government has decided to hold local-level elections in a single phase on May 13. A meeting of Council of Minister held on Monday announced the date.
Earlier, Prime Minister Deuba, during a meeting with the Election Commission office-bearers had proposed May 18 to hold local polls.
The term of the locally-elected representatives is expiring on May 20 this year. The commission needs 120 days from the date of the announcement for election-related management and preparation.
A meeting of the ruling alliance held on January 29 had forged a consensus on holding local polls.
