Jumla: The life of the people in upper Karnali districts including Jumla has been crippled due to snowfall since Thursday night.
As a result, people in the district have been affected in various ways. Electricity supply has been disrupted, and air and road transportations come to a halt. Likewise, schools have been closed.
Snowfall caused discontinuation of electricity forcing local people to live in the dark, said a local resident, Karna Buda. Utility poles and wires at many places are damaged in the disaster, said Naresh Rawal, chief of the Jumla distribution center, Nepal Electricity Authority, adding that it, as a result, affected around 3,500 customers. Electricity supply would resume after repairing the damaged utility poles and wires once the weather becomes clear, he said.
The road division has been asked to reopen the obstructed Karnali Highway where the snow is deposited as high as two feet, said Chief District Officer, Jumla, Bijaya Kumari Prasain.
Following this, work to clear the road was underway after employing two dozers, she said.
