Nominations filed for National Assembly polls

Kathmandu: Nominations were filed on Tuesday for the elections for 19 seats of the National Assembly members.

Spokesperson of the Election Commission Shaligram Sharma shared that nomination papers have been registered in all the groups in all the provinces for the upcoming election.

The nominations took place as per schedule from 10 am to 3 pm today. Twelve political parties have registered their candidates for the election to be held on January 26. The commission will provide an election symbol to the candidate on January 9.

The term of eight members of the CPN-UML, four members of the CPN (Unified Socialist), four members of the CPN (Maoist Center) and three members of the Nepali Congress is coming to an end on March 4. There is a provision that the election must be held 35 days before the end of the term of the member.

There is a constitutional provision that the term of one-third of the members of the 59-member National Assembly expires every two years. Nine political parties have participated in the election in all the provinces and three parties only in specific provinces.

There are 2,025 voters for the election, including members of the provincial assembly and the chief and deputy chief of the municipalities.
