Kathmandu: CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Rajendra Rai has staked a claim for the post of Chief Minister in Province 1 with the support of 50 lawmakers.
Rai presented the claim with the signatures of lawmakers from CPN (Unified Socialist), Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center) and Janata Samajbadi Party. Support from 47 lawmakers is necessary to form government in Province 1.
Earlier today, Province Chief Somnath Adhikari ‘Pyasi’ called on parties to stake a claim for a new government following the resignation of Chief Minister Bhim Acharya.
Acharya had announced his resignation addressing a meeting of the Province Assembly on Monday. The provincial assembly was scheduled to vote over CM Acharya’s confidence motion.
Acharya was appointed executive head of Province 1 on August 26 following the resignation of his predecessor Sher Dhan Rai.
