Kathmandu: Vice-Chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist) and a member of the Bagmati Province Assembly Rajendra Pandey has staked a claim for the post of Chief Minister with the signatures of 59 lawmakers.
According to Kumari Moktan, a lawmaker from the UCPN (Maoist Center), Pandey has the support of lawmakers from UCPN (Maoist Center), Nepali Congress, CPN (Unified Socialist), and Janata Samajbadi Party. Support of 55 lawmakers is necessary to form a government.
Earlier today, Bagmati Province Chief Yadav Chandra Sharma had called for the formation of a new government, giving the deadline till 3 pm on Thursday.
Province Chief Sharma had also approved the resignation tendered by Chief Minister Astalaxmi Shakya today itself. Sharma had called for the formation of a new government, asking the province assembly members to claim the post of new CM, showing the support of two or more political parties to him/her.
