Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday declined to issue a stay order against the appointment of Kulman Ghising as Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

A single bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR issued a show-cause notice to the defendants asking them to furnish reasons for the appointment.

Former Managing Director at NEA Hitendra Dev Shakya on August 16 had filed a writ petition at the apex court against the appointment seeking a stay order. Stating that he was appointed for a four-year tenure, Shakya has argued that the government can’t dismiss him before the tenure expires.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on August 9 had picked Ghising to the post. He had retired from the NEA Managing Director ten months ago after completion of his four-year term.
