Kathmandu: Shreeyanka Thapa,19, is a titleholder of Miss Nepal Teen Universe 2021. She is representing Nepal at the Miss Teen Universe, which is going to be held in October in Dubai, UAE. Thapa says she is fond of arts and poetry. In her leisure time, she mostly draws or paints her feelings out on paper.
“’I am a very opinionated teen with a strong voice and I aim to be a lawyer,” says Thapa.
Thapa recently talked to Nepal Live Today about the meaning of peace to her, the interesting thing she watched recently and among others.
What does peace mean to you?
Peace to me is the power to accept and smile at everything. It is the ability to live life without any worries. It’s like looking in the mirror and not having any guilt. In this chaotic world, I try to find peace in everything.
Peace to me is the sound of birds, rivers and forests. It’s the sound of the bells from temples around, the sound of my inner voice which is calm and which reminds me to be thankful for every small thing I have in life. It is the smell of mud and flowers.
Peace for me is the ability to accept things and people as they are and loving them no matter what. It is the absence of any kind of conflicts within or around me. I’m in eternal peace when my soul finds a connection with the creator, God.
If you were a billionaire, what would you do to help build a better world?
As Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” I would provide education to the underprivileged children as they are the future of the world; a well-behaved and educated leader can raise the standard of themselves and help the people around them.
What is the one thing you want to change about the beauty pageant sector of Nepal?
The one thing I would love to change about pageants in Nepal is the height criteria that Miss Nepal has. From a very small age, I wanted to win the title of Miss World but due to the height criteria for Miss Nepal, I’ll never be able to participate. The reason Miss Nepal has height criteria is because two of the four international platforms that one can participate after achieving various positions in Miss Nepal have certain height criteria and that’s the reason Miss Nepal organization isn’t able to let go of the criteria and I’m hopeful that it’ll change someday soon and girls with shorter height can also participate and showcase their talents and win.
What’s the most interesting thing you watched recently?
Whenever I hear about any kind of crime, I’m left with many unanswered questions. It really makes me wonder what makes people commit such heinous crimes and I try to find answers by watching documentaries on crime. The one documentary that shook me completely is the one on Chris Watts. He was a father to two little girls and his wife was pregnant with another. One night he killed both his daughters and wife and dumped his daughters on an oil tank and buried his wife in a grave. During the whole investigation process, he acted like he missed his family and wanted them back but due to his body language, the officers were able to find out that he was the perpetrator of the crime. He was in the process of separating from his wife and had a girlfriend. There was no need or motivation to kill his family as they were separating anyway. Chris Watts was sentenced to life on November 18, 2018.
