Kathmandu: Nepalis in Afghanistan have started returning home after the Taliban took over the Afghan capital, Kabul, recently. A total of 127 Nepalis deployed at the US and Canadian missions among others in Afghanistan returned home through a chartered flight of Jazeera Airways on Tuesday morning.
The government had directed the concerned authorities to make coordinated efforts to safely rescue the Nepalis in Afghanistan at the earliest. The meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday had taken the decision towards this effect.
A task force was also formed last Saturday in convenorship of the joint-secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take stock of the Nepalis in Afghanistan and to rescue them in the wake of the turn of the events there. The department of consular service under the MoFA has provisioned registration of details about the Nepalis in Afghanistan on the website of the department.
