Kathmandu: Former Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Hitendra Dev Shakya has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court (SC) against the appointment of Kulman Ghising to the top post at the power authority.
Shakya on Monday filed a writ petition at the apex court through his representative seeking an interim order against the appointment calling it to be illegal.
Stating that he was appointed for a four-year tenure, Shakya has argued that the government can’t dismiss him before the tenure expires.
A preliminary hearing on the case has been scheduled for Wednesday.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on August 9 had picked Ghising to the post. He had retired from the NEA Managing Director ten months ago after completion of his four-year term.
Likewise, Shakya was appointed the full-term member with the special rank and TOR at the Water and Energy Commission.
Ghising is widely remembered by the public for his successful leadership in the NEA during the first term as he was credited for liberating the NEA from Rs 28 billion accumulated loss, taking the organization to profit. He had been able to completely free the people of the hours-long power outage while he was in office for the first time.
