Kathmandu: The Everest Premier League franchise Bhairahawa Gladiators has signed Sri Lankan national cricket team wicketkeeper-batsman and World Cup champion Dinesh Chandimal as its first foreign player. The cricket league tournament, which features six teams, is slated to begin on September 25.
The Gladiators issued a press release on Thursday to announce the hiring of Chandimal, the 31-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman who is the youngest player to captain Sri Lanka’s T20I team. Chandimal has played 62 Tests, 149 ODIs, and 57 T20I matches for Sri Lanka. In T20 Internationals, he has scored a total of 868 runs, including five fifties. He has also played in the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals.
According to the press release, Sharad Bheswakar, Pradip Airee, Mohammad Arif Sheikh, Krishna Karki, Bhuvan Karki, Deepesh Shrestha, Rohit Kumar Poudel, Hari Shankar Jha, Abhinash Bohra, Kushal Malla, Vikas Agri and Himanshu Dutt will continue in the team.
Likewise, the team will also give continuity to the former head coach of the Nepali national cricket team, Pubudu Dasanayake, as its coach.
The Gladiators further announced that they are currently under discussion to hire other foreign players, the names of whom will be announced in a few days.
