Kathmandu: The country has recorded an additional 8,167 new Covid-19 cases, taking the caseload to a total of 447,704. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, samples of 17,971 people were tested through the PCR method while 577 samples were tested adopting the antigen method.
A total of 187 people died from the virus in the past 24 hours. So far, the death toll from the infection has hit 4,856, according to the Ministry. Likewise, 5,455 recovered during the period.
Nepal is struggling with a second wave of the pandemic. Hospitals are reeling under a shortage of medical oxygen and running out of beds.
The Covid-19 infection rate has sharply increased in the country of late. The country recorded over 158,000 new cases in the month of Baisakh (April 14-May 14). The number of infected was 37,925 on April 14 while the number reached 439,658 on May 14. According to the Ministry of Health, a total of 158,071 new cases were recorded in this month.
Major parts of the country including the federal capital Kathmandu are under prohibitory order to curb the spread of the virus. However, cases have continued to surge. The recovery rate in the country currently stands at 74.4 percent as of Saturday afternoon.

Nepal recorded 8,850 fresh coronavirus cases. Active cases have crossed the 88,000-mark. According to the ministry, 88 people lost their lives to coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours. Likewise, 4,022 people won their fight against the pandemic.
