Kathmandu: The United States has suggested its nationals not to visit Nepal owing to an unprecedented surge in the Covid-19 cases.
In a travel advisory on May 10, the US Department of State elevated the travel advisory for Nepal to level 4 – do not travel.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a level 4 travel health notice for Nepal due to Covid-19, indicating a very high level of cases, reads the travel advisory.
Nepal is struggling with a second wave of the pandemic with record-high new coronavirus cases being reported in the past few days. Hospitals are reeling under a shortage of medical oxygen and running out of beds.
The US Embassy in Kathmandu said it has requested that the government permit the operation of charter flights by airlines providing service to the United States. Nepal on Tuesday had extended the suspension of all scheduled international flights till May 31.
“We are awaiting word of approval for the operation of such flights,” the US Embassy in Kathmandu said.
