Kathmandu: The National Population and Housing Census 2021 has been postponed for the time being owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Sunday evening had decided to postpone the census for the time being on the recommendation of the Central Bureau of Statistics.
The census was scheduled to take place from June 8-22.
However, we are yet to receive a formal letter, said CBS Spokesperson Tirtha Raj Chaulagain. He added that the board meeting of the CBS will take a formal decision after receiving the letter from the concerned ministry.
He stated that the training of supervisors for the census has been postponed.

“Ongoing training has been stopped in some districts,” Chaulagain said.
Coronavirus cases have been increasing in Nepal at an alarming rate, setting a new record in the intraday count.
Health authorities in Nepal on Sunday had recorded 7,211 new coronavirus cases in the highest single-day spike and 27 fatalities.
