Kathmandu: Lumbini Province Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel has resigned on Sunday before the Province Assembly meeting starts deliberations on a no-confidence motion filed against him.
According to a source at the Province Chief Office, CM Pokharel has already submitted his resignation to Province Chief Dharmanath Yadav. The resignation has been approved.
The motion was registered against CM Pokharel on April 19 with signatures of 41 lawmakers, proposing Kul Prasad KC of the CPN (Maoist Center) as the new Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, Province Chief Yadav has assigned the responsibility of handling the affairs of the province government to the current government until a new government is formed.
